We landed in Chiang Mai today, and headed out to find a restaurant for dinner (walking). The girls walked a good two miles and the restaurant we were going to eat at was closed (for New Year I guess). Our host at the guest house here thought it would take 20 minutes, LOL. On the way back we found ourselves just outside the Sareerikkatartsirirak Pagoda, and the gold was shining quite a bit with the lights on it at dusk. Looking forward to the next few days!
It was our last day today in Siem Reap. The travel bus was sending a van to pick us up at 8:45am to take us to the bus station and head back to Phnom Penh. I decided that I might as well use my third day of a three day pass to the Angkor temples for another sunrise at Angkor Wat. This time I let the girls and Marla stay in bed. Hopped in a tuk-tuk at 4:40am and was first in the line along the pond’s waterfront! I also chose to not do HDR today, and captured this shot just after the light peaked out with a 30 second exposure. Hope you like it! I know I like it much better than the photo from the sunrise three days ago. Here’s to the last photo of 2011!!! My second consecutive year of doing a project 365 (1 photo taken every day) on 1PhotoPerDay.com.
Will return to the Angkor temples tomorrow here in Siem Reap, Cambodia. This morning we enjoyed joining over 200 Asia’s Hope orphanage children from across the country for a Christmas celebration. Grabbed a quick bite to eat at The Blue Pumpkin, then had a great time shooting photos of five graduate students from EGBOK Mission (equip and transition less fortunate youth to work in some awesome five star hotels and various places in the hospitality industry). Thanks to the help of Jasmine Perry (on staff with the mission). We chatted for a bit at one of the five hotels, Hotel De La Paix, and marveled at the Christmas tree. The tree consists of 3,000 goose feathers, each suspended by a piece of string and a nail in the ceiling above their water/reflecting pool. It was made to show that although Cambodia isn’t respected too much in the world, it is a very beautiful place! I would agree!
We hopped on a tuk-tuk this morning at 4:45 am and rode in the dark for about 20 minutes to the gates of the Angkor Wat temple region. It was amazing taking hundreds of photos in one of the best places in the world to do so. I didn’t have much time to look through all of them, so I chose one from the sunrise to put up for today. Looking forward to sharing them all with you soon, in the form of a photo book, canvases and prints available for purchase, etc. We’re very tired, but I am hoping to head back out there again over the next 2-3 days (since I got a 3 day pass).
