Her desk has made the photo of the day the past two days, so I guess it’s time she stole the show. Took the tripod with me this evening, so I could get close-up without shaking at all. Looked down and saw what appeared to be over an inch streak of slimy mud on a leaf. Looked closer and I saw the mud shrinking when I touched the leaf. I was blown away watching this slug shrink up to less than 1/2″ long, guessing it was protecting itself. Hello to my new friends that I met on the trail!
My brother and I were out giving the macro extension tubes a try again, and found maybe 10 or so lady bugs. When we got within an inch or so most of them would fly away. When I first saw these love bugs I initially thought it was one large bug. After I got within an inch and realized it was actually two bugs I knew something had to be going on. It most definitely was. I did some research on the web, and found out that they are actually Pink Lady Beetles. Whoever named them doesn’t realize that some are not pink, and some are not ladies.
Not sure what this duck was thinking! I saw him contemplating jumping, and I stood there for a few minutes trying to talk him out of it. I let him know that he was going to be famous for being today’s photo, but that didn’t seem to be of any help. What do you think his final decision was? Turn around and run, jump and risk injury or even death, or fly away?
