Red Aphids on flower

Red bugs on flower
Took a quick photo walk this evening and saw hundreds of these bugs (look like red mosquitoes) all over a wild flower patch behind our neighborhood. I’ve never seen them before. Do you know what they are?
Nikon D7000: ISO 400, f5.6, 1/60 sec with Nikon 18-105mm lens and Kenko 20mm Extension Tube
